ANTONIO BRAGATO

I am the architect of BRAGATO wines.

Born in Swabia, Italian in body and soul, a Berliner for over thirty years, and founder of the legendary Enoiteca IL Calice in Berlin, which I have seen and managed all these years as an embassy of Italian wine in Germany.

With Enoiteca IL Calice, I created a meeting place for wine lovers, for a demanding and "wine-experienced" clientele. All the growths in my selection of over 750 Italian (and more recently German) wines always clearly showed the terroir character and the winemaker's signature. The meticulous selection work of many years gradually gave me a profound knowledge of the best production regions and the most outstanding winemakers and their proven viticultural techniques, especially in Friuli, where I grew up.

The acquired competencies logically result in my professional development as a winemaker, and I consistently use them in the conception and implementation of my wines, in long-standing collaboration with my winemaker partner Gianni Maccari. The studied agronomist and oenologist is one of Friuli's best-trained viticulture experts. Before he became independent with his own winery Ronco della Rocca, he was responsible for twenty years in the vineyard and cellar for the production of the top winery Livio Felluga. The profound knowledge of his own 12 hectares of vineyards as well as the leased parcels and the radical precision in the execution of each work step characterize the clear style and reliable quality of BRAGATO wines. With Gianni Maccari and his "nature-friendly" winery, managed according to organic guidelines (nature-friendly, not certified), I have succeeded in establishing a stable and lasting connection to the terroir.
