THE THREE GLASSES 2023 TO VIOGNIER ARS MAGNA 2020

by Maria Carla Magni

It was with great pride that the prestigious recognition of the Gambero Rosso Guide 2023 was welcomed with the THREE GLASSES awarded to the VIOGNIER ARS MAGNA 2020 label.

This special award marks an important step forward for the Ômina Romana  winery in recognition of its team spirit-oriented work that runs from the field, managed by agronomist Paula Pacheco to the work in the cellar with  oenologist Simone Sarnà and his staff.

The cultivation method and the production philosophy chosen by Ômina Romana and adopted throughout  the years, are the outcome that rewards the values of thoroughness and passion, manual ability and continuous research of the characteristics of the soil and the vines and provide the high-quality standard of the final product.

Manual work in the cellar is in line with enhancing the value of the century-old terroir, especially thanks to the environment and the geo-pedological features of  Ômina Romana's location. Since it was planted many years ago, every single vine has been attended with care and cultivated with a sustainability approach in harmony with nature focused on the best balance point to produce just few grape bunches per vine.

The harvest coincides with another key element in the production supply chain; the time when, to obtain wine with unmistakable features, the grapes are transformed without forcing the processes, allowing our wines the time to rest and mature.

It is essential to emphasize that the virtues of our land of volcanic origin and Ômina Romana's geographic location are unique for the characteristics of its terroir: winds coming from the sea contrast with those from the Apennines creating the optimal micro-climate that, thanks to the temperature ranges and the volcanic soil, allow our vines to express their full potential. Here are some examples: CHARDONNAY, VIOGNIER (among white grapes) and MERLOT, CABERNET FRANC, CABERNET SAU'sVIGNON, CESANESE (among the red)

Ômina Romana winery, located in the hills around Velletri, presents here below the technical characteristics of its awarded VIOGNIER ARS MAGNA 2020 label.

VIOGNIER ÔMINA ROMANA reflects  the ARS MAGNA of the philosopher Raimondo Lullo, a "Virtus" as synonym with value, moral perfection, honesty, rectitude that go very well with the meticulous work that is carried out with passion by our team from vines to bottle.

VIOGNIER ARS MAGNA 2020 Sommelier profile

COLOUR: intense, golden yellow, brillant.
AROMA: splendid to the nose, with hints of apricot and peach, notes of melon, tied by hints of hot ginger and sweet spices. Splendid balance between the fruit of the vine and the oak, the two enhance each other creating unique synergy.
PALATE: the palate is consistent with the aroma perceived by the nose. It starts with apricot hints and then it continues with a tinge of piquant spices and a  very long finish. Sapidity takes a leading role and makes it pleasant, an energising and vivacious drink, which does not disguise its real elegance
