THE SUCCESSFUL, "MADE IN ROME" ENCOUNTER BETWEEN FASHION AND WINE.
by Maria Carla Magni
On a day at the end of September, as our 2021 harvest drew to a close, the Ômina Romana estate was turned into a veritable photo set in order to provide the perfect backdrop for the presentation of the latest F/W 2021-22 collection by Rome-based fashion designer Mia Carmen..
Both our cellar and our vineyard were “stormed” by the glamorous atmosphere of fashion, as a mild early autumn day was transformed into a natural palette of colours between purple must and grapes, juxtaposed with the soft, sometimes bright nuances of the autumn-inspired garments worn by Mia Carmen's models.
Finally, Katharina Boerner's two super champion dogs, Alba and Atos, her four-legged friends, arrived on the set, the real stars of the set posing naturally for the photographer's shots.
In order to get to know Mia Carmen's lines and style more closely, we asked her a few questions.
-
How did the idea of setting your new F/W 2021-22 collection within Ômina Romana's vineyard come about?
As I was thinking about a location for my fall/winter collection, I wanted to choose an outdoor venue featuring an autumnal, albeit colourful context. I immediately thought about the milieu of Ômina Romana and, after inspecting the place, my expectations were far exceeded: I found the perfect location!
-
Does your collection feature any references to the colors of wine?
My collections are always very colourful. This one in particular has a kind of velvet that matches the color of must perfectly, so it was easy for us to photograph them together. -
What are the characteristics of your new collection and what are its targets?
As always, the new collection is aimed at women who love elegance and the quality of the materials they wear, also in the case of day-to-day clothing and travel garments. My collection includes flannel or cashmere-blend coats in a variety of new colors that can brighten up the autumn, recalling the colours of the leaves as they change their hue during this season. My collection does also include jackets and coats with the colour of the dusty autumn sky, something that goes well with the sugar paper integrated within the very comfortable bi-elastic velvet that we have used in this collection for our black or olive green dresses, as well as in the case of printed velvet jackets. Said jackets feature wool squares or double wool crepe in different colours, ranging from plum to fluorescent green and from chocolate to coral to orange. As always, our garments can also be ordered in different colours, as you can choose the details and accessories to your liking. One of the fundamental features of our clothes lies in their uniqueness. Our customers can choose according to their own desires, changing fabrics, lengths, buttons and linings. This is what I call "the kingdom of wishes".
-
What do you offer in your atelier in the heart of Rome?
TThose who enter Mia Carmen's atelier will find the new collection as it is constantly enriched. There are not only dresses, coats, jackets and our very comfortable trousers that our customers love so much, but also accessories, bags, scarves and wrap-around collars, all of which can be perfect Christmas presents. All of this is "made in Mia Carmen, Made in Rome". We offer a customized service and each customer of ours can interact with us in a unique way, exactly like all our garments are unique. -
You are not the first stylist to effectively combine the worlds of FASHION and WINE, what was your personal experience during the day you devoted to the shooting in the Ômina Romana vineyard?
I think that Ômina Romana is a special place, not the usual vineyard, but rather a place where you can experience a unique atmosphere, filled with passion and love, where everything is carried out at its best. All of us, from the photographer to the models, from the hairdresser to the make-up artist, were ecstatic because when you enter Ômina Romana you immediately feel that you are privileged, you are in the temple of good wine and you can feel it in the air! -
If you had to choose an ideal garment to match with a wine, what would you combine?
If I had to match a dress with a wine by Ômina Romana, I would choose a sexy, sinuous and very elegant dress for an unforgettable evening -
What are the colours and trendy item in this F/W collection?
For me the most significant items in this collection are the powder-coloured ones; I love them! Paired with the light-coloured boots or the matching Cady trousers or the patterned miniskirts, they become gorgeous. -
Which fabric do you prefer and which garment should never be missing in the wardrobe?
The garment that should never be missing from any wardrobe is the bi-elastic velvet dress, be it with a V-neck or a round neck. Such a dress can be fabulous for an evening but also with a pair of rubber boots. Many colours are available, and they can also be chosen from a chart. -
To conclude, what was the most fun video moment during the shooting as a whole?
The most fun shots were those with Katharina Bōrner's wonderful dogs, Bōrner, they are so sweet, they showered me with “kisses” when I sat at their height. They are great "models", as they are elegant and perfect with Mia Carmen's clothes.
I would also like to use this opportunity to thank the Bōrner family first of all, for their welcome, as well as Andrea Laureani for his photos, then Stefano, a Hair Stylist belonging to Tagliati x il Successo in Velletri, the models, i.e., Alexandra, Claudia and Giulia, as well as Cristiana, a Makeup Artist.
